The Fascial System

Trigger Point Therapy and Muscle Activation Techniques

A Multi-Faceted Chiropractic Approach to Healing the Fascia

Below is the chapter on Fascia, taken from Dr. Sean Woods’ book, “The Healing Vibe.”

The fascial system is an interconnected, continuous system that carries important information and nutrients throughout it. Think of fascia as the place where your proteins go to help build your body. The medical community as of June 2018 has reported that the fascia is a body-wide system that is a source of disease in the body. This discovery comes on the heels of medicine confirming the mesentery as a separate organ. I’m confident that additional research will reveal that the mesentery and the fascia are the same thing and are continuous with one another. In this regard we could state that the mesentery is acting as both an organ and a system. Research is great but if they look to correct the mesentery/fascia by utilizing a medication, they will find themselves in the same predicament they are in now: Raising billions of dollars to correct symptoms and fight disease when what is needed is a correction of the body systems to restore wellness. If the goal is not to clean, restore, and coordinate the systems of the body, then disease can never be corrected.

The fascia compartmentalizes every aspect of our body and allows for a super-highway of materials to move chemically and electrically through it. The center of these fascial connections is at the solar plexus – third chakra –diaphragm, liver, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, and transverse colon.

From this center point, the fascia spreads out to every aspect of the body. A portion of the food we digest absorbs into this fascia and it then continues the process of building the integrity of our body.

When the fascial system dries up or there is scarring within it, information and materials need to be rerouted or may fail to arrive at all. This failure can be the result of injuries, poor posture, lack of movement, surgeries, toxic build-up, and poor food choices. Hyaluronic acid is a product made by the body that is the carrying medium of nutrients in the fascia. It is the quality of your food choices and the health of your microbiome that makes healthy hyaluronic acid. When hyaluronic acid is compromised, the fascia will slow down or shut down, depending on the Ph of the area.

The fascial system is multilayered, separating your individual organs deep inside of you as the mesentery, and then expanding out to separate your individual muscles on the outermost aspects of your body. This system is tightly connected to the meridian system and is a major route for liquid chemistry and the movement of light energy throughout the body.

The fascial system is where I can find old injuries in people who have chronic degenerative conditions. It is also the system where you find fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is the chronic pain condition where there are widespread painful trigger points throughout the musculo-skeletal system.

During my adjustments I always spend time working to get the dried and damaged fascia operating again through trigger point therapy and muscle activation techniques, along with recommending stretches and better eating

habits. Without a multi-faceted approach, fascia will never heal. I see a lot of damaged tissue in old ankle sprains, twisted knees, chronic hip bursitis, spinal degenerations, and rotator cuff injuries. If left untreated, these old injuries can contribute to the stress on the organs associated with that corresponding fascial line or meridian of the body.
